The purpose of the Student Police Academy is to make students more aware of Pennsylvania laws as they relate to traffic, criminal offenses, and civil matters. It will also provide a small example what type of training that Police Officers are required to go through in order to perform this often times dangerous profession and give students an understanding of why Police Officers react to certain situations.
The Student Police Academy will be open to all students grades 6 through 12 who may have an interest in pursuing a law enforcement career or who have a strong interest in knowing more about how our justice system works.
The course will be taught by School Resource Officers and may include guest speakers such as Police Officers, Judges, and other personnel in the law enforcement field. It may also include field trips to the Brentwood School Police Department and Courts building.
Class sizes will be limited to 20 students. Students wishing to participate in the program will be required to fill out an application stating why they wish to participate in the program, have good citizenship, and maintain passing grades in all their classes.
Upon successful completion of the program students will receive a certificate of completion from the Brentwood School Police Department and have a better understanding of how our Police Department and Justice system works in order to make our community safe for everyone.
